The U.S. Southern border has once again become a sieve, with record numbers of families now streaming into the country by taking advantage of the outcry over the Trump administration’s brief adherence earlier this year to a necessary “zero tolerance” policy.
By this time, no one should believe illegal immigration is a series of thousands of separate incidents in which individuals and families courageously make their way to this country to independently seek their fortune. No, most illegal immigrants who come here do so through coordinated efforts and when the political climate is shown to be most advantageous.
Neither are they coming here to assimilate into the country, become proficient in the language and make it on their own. All too many are happy to take what assistance the U.S. will give them, bear children here (who are automatically American citizens) and become lost within an immigration system unlikely to ever seek them.
Democrats, in turn, hope this burgeoning number of new residents will one day be made citizens, and, with many suddenly eligible for even more government largesse, will become adherents of the party that takes its continued existence from subservient voters.
With a month (September) still to go in the fiscal year, the United States Border Patrol had stopped more than 90,000 “family units” (parents and children traveling together) in the last 11 months. Of those, 12,744 – more than 14 percent – sought illegal entrance into the country in August. That number was 38 percent higher than July.
