‘Fight and Flight’ Paintings by Bryan LeBoeuf explore complex relationships and narratives

The University of the South Art Gallery in Sewanee, Tenn., is featuring Bryan LeBoeuf in a solo exhibition titled “Fight and Flight.”

LeBoeuf’s gorgeously painted figurative canvases depict complex relationships and open-ended narratives. The beauty and enigmatic subject matter of the paintings engage viewers emotionally and intellectually as they empathize, identify and wonder: “What is happening?” ” What will happen next?”

A native of rural Gulf Coast Louisiana, LeBoeuf lives and works in Brooklyn, N.Y. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Fort Lewis College in Colorado and his Master of Fine Arts degree from the New York Academy of Art. He exhibits primarily in New York and has received awards including the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Award, the Prince of Wales Foundation Prize and the Merreville Foundation Award. His paintings are included in The Forbes Collection and the Flint Institutes of Art.

The show continues through Feb. 12.

The gallery, 68 Georgia Ave. on the campus of the University of the South, is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and noon-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday (all times Central). The gallery will be closed for winter break Thursday through Jan. 18.
