Tenn-Am ’21 upgrades total over $25 million
Tennessee American Water invested nearly $25 million in infrastructure renewal or replacement projects in 2021, the latest in more than $150 million of water system improvements the Chattanooga utility has made since 2013.
Among its major projects completed in 2021, the privately-owned water utility spent $2.5 million to rehabilitate a mid-1950s water filter building at its Chattanooga plant, $1.5 million for slope protection next to the Tennessee Riverpark and $1.3 million to replace 4,500 feet of water main on Dodds Avenue.
“Replacement of infrastructure that has reached the end of its useful life advances water service reliability for our customers,” Tennessee American Water President Grant Evitts said in a year-end report on the utility’s activities. “Making continuous improvements in the drinking water system helps keep costs down.”
Tennessee American Water is a subsidiary of American Water, the nation’s biggest privately owned water utility, and serves nearly 400,000 people in the Chattanooga area.
