River City Sessions is hosting a fundraiser benefiting Lula Lake Land Trust Friday, June 10 at the land trust’s core property within the Rock Creek and Bear Creek watersheds on Lookout Mountain. A monthly program at The Camp House, River City Sessions features local and regional musical acts along with Southern storytellers.
“It’s going to be a unique experience, having live music with Rock Creek in the background at sunset,” said Kat Volzer, director of development and communications for Lula Lake Land Trust.
Michael Gray, director and facilitator of River City Sessions, is a fan of Lula Lake and approached the trust about holding a benefit on the property, she said.
“I think the ambiance is going to be great,” Volzer said.
Since Mike Pollock became executive director of the trust in July, the trust has been experimenting with new ideas for fundraising, and she said this is the first Friday evening the property has been opened to the public.
“We have a gorgeous property, and we’re looking at things we can do to get people out on the property and share the land and what we have,” said Volzer.
Admission is a suggested donation of $10 per person. The trust recently expanded its open-gate policy from the first and last Sunday of each month to include the first and last Saturday as well, and she said the funds raised through the event will go toward paying staff for the additional hours and to reward volunteers.
River City Sessions’ performances at Lula Lake will feature Brian Haynes of the Chattanooga Folk School, Rising Fawn Social Club and an excerpt from local playwright Peggy Douglas’s “A Visit with Mother Maybelle,” a celebration of the life of Maybelle Carter.
Pizza, beer and wine will be available for purchase on-site. The concert will be recorded live and will air the following Sunday on WUTC 88.1 FM.
The property is at 5000 Lula Lake Road in Lookout Mountain, Ga. For more information about the trust visit lulalake.org, or to find out more about River City Sessions visit rivercitysessions.com.
