Children are one of the most loved and valued parts of our lives. And the school opportunities that our youngsters receive are important in launching them toward personal success.
We consider that now in particular because Hamilton County’s school board will soon choose a superintendent to lead our principals and teachers in giving our children the best educational opportunities possible.
Obviously, we want an excellent superintendent. And so it is appropriate that the board is looking locally first and may name interim Superintendent Rick Smith to the top spot permanently.
It would be valuable to have someone from here, who understands our community and its circumstances better than even a capable individual from outside could.
We have had some good school leaders from far away. But we also have had some who grew up in service here, among us, and who had a clear, long-term stake in local educational progress. However rightly motivated, a candidate from outside the area who does not know our community simply might not have that level of personal investment in our schools.
