Parkridge Valley disinfected its Adult and Senior Campus on Courage Way on Monday after some staff and patients said last week they were suffering from a gastrointestinal illness.
“We are working closely with the health department and we are thoroughly cleaning the affected unit,” spokeswoman Jamie Lawson said Monday.
Parkridge Valley stopped admitting patients and barred visitors on Friday “out of an abundance of caution,” Lawson said. The cafeteria was also closed.
Patients within the mental health facility were treated as usual, he said.
New patients were being admitted, visitation resumed, and the cafeteria reopened Monday afternoon, Lawson said.
Health Department officials were not available for comment late Monday afternoon. Although Lawson said most of those affected experienced common symptoms of an upset stomach, the specific cause of the illness had not been determined. He also said he did not know how many people had been affected.
But no additional incidents of illness were reported over the weekend, Lawson said.
He said the nearby Child and Adolescent Campus was also disinfected although there were no reports of illness there.
