From Todd

JG – for the mailbag. Who do you like in the Fed Ex cup? With DJ’s come-from-behind and extra hole win yesterday, he has to be the favorite, right? Who else is on the radar?

Todd –

Dustin Johnson has six wins since 2012 when trailing entering Sunday. That’s the most on tour and pretty impressive showings considering he was coming from behind.

We think Justin Thomas is playing pretty dog gone well, too. He’s third in the Fed Ex Cup standings. He’s monster long off the tee. He’s over-the-top confident (bordering on arrogant) and he’s playing great right now. Here’s a cool stat: Thomas, with a win at the PGA became just the fifth golfer to win four-or-more times in a Tour season with a major under the age of 24. The other names on that list may catch your attention. Jack Nicklaus in 1963. Tiger Woods in 1999 and 2000 (and know that he won 17 times over that span). Rory McIlroy in 2012. Jordan Speith in 2015.

Pretty strong list, no?

Those guys are both super-long and can overpower these courses. Those dudes also are ranked 1 and 3 in points. As for for dark horses, we’ll take Kuchar (15th) if we have to pick someone outside the top 10. If we have to pick someone outside the top 20, we’ll go with Justin Rose (24th). Rose has five top-10s this year and consistency and top 10s will equal good things in the playoffs.
