Senators’ Pruitt votes will hurt us

On Feb. 17, Sens. Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker voted for Scott Pruitt to head the Environmental Protection Agency in spite of outcry against Pruitt and with the knowledge of Pruitt’s actions against environmental protections.

Our senators are public servants elected by us to work for us. Their recent choices show no evidence of that, and we will pay mightily. Their votes for Pruitt gave us a “leader” whose goal is to weaken the EPA, do away with rules that protect us from pollution and allow deregulation of industry.

Alexander and Corker threw under the bus every child in America who struggles with asthma; every American who relies on the Safe Drinking Water Act; every American who depends on the Clean Air Act for good health and breathable air; every human and living creature that only can thrive with unpolluted streams, rivers, lakes and oceans protected by the Clean Water Act; and all who rely on food not toxified by polluting agricultural and industrial practices. We were all thrown under the bus.

During a recent congressional recess, our senators were home but did not schedule town hall meetings. Cowardice? Shame? Both?

Nonprofit provides needed veteran help

Recently I had the distinct privilege of getting to know the individuals involved with the nonprofit organization “Aid A Vet.” This group assists veterans in need of financial assistance with basic needs such as housing, utilities, etc.

How did I get to know these outstanding individuals whose mission is to help our veterans? Due to financial hardship, I was in need of assistance paying my electric bill. They stepped up to the plate and paid my January bill.

Many military veterans are in need of financial assistance due to varying reasons such as health issues, unforeseen financial hardships, etc. My plea is that if you ever see their booth/table at an event, please reach out with your heart and wallet and support them with a donation.

I thank you as all others do who have benefited from their assistance.

Democrats: Give Trump a chance to lead

I am extremely pleased with what President Trump has achieved in the short time he has been in office, but I am appalled at the childish reaction of the Democrats. They just can’t get over their surprising election loss. I am convinced that if they would quit trying to destroy Trump and the Republican Party but instead get behind him, America would truly be great again.

The Democrats have exhibited immature behavior and can best be described as “cry-babies”or “spoil-sports.” With Trump barely a month in office, all the liberals are trying to declare him a failure, but even worse they are trying to see that he fails.

Trump has made a big deal about the media working with the Democrats to attack him, and he is correct. The Democrats oppose him at every turn, whether he is right or not. He is making great strides if you will just give him a chance.
