Want higher taxes Jan. 1?

Guess what the United States Senate did last week!

It failed to act to prevent major across-the-board tax increases.

What will that mean if some other tax-cutting action is not taken by Congress – soon?

It means your taxes will go up next year!

Is that something anyone wants?

We are in an obvious economic crisis. Taxes are too high already, as is the national debt. Interest on the debt is going up. And Congress is spending even more money, adding more than $1 trillion to the national debt each year.

Does that sound like “good business” to you?

If we want to encourage business and job creation – and not punish our nation’s taxpayers – wouldn’t it be a good idea for our government to spend less, tax less and increase the national debt less?

We can’t defy economic common sense permanently and expect to thrive.

Oh, just “tax the rich,” some politicians say. But we are already over-taxing the small businesses that represent many of the so-called “rich.” That discourages business investment, puts brakes on the creation of jobs and stalls the economy for us all.

Do you believe higher taxes – or lower taxes – would be better for our people as a whole, and better for our country overall?

Well, whatever you have in mind, you’d better tell President Barack Obama and the members of Congress soon, and emphatically.

That’s because the president and a majority in the Democrat-run Congress seem to have some higher taxes in mind.

Rep. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., says he expects a “deal” to be offered soon to keep taxes from going up. We certainly hope he’s right.

In the meantime, shouldn’t we tell Congress, before it’s too late, that this is certainly no time to raise any taxes on anybody?
