CLEVELAND, Tenn. — With less than six weeks left in the budget year, local governments are preparing their new budgets while keeping a close watch on sales tax revenue.
Last summer, city and county voters approved a local sales tax increase. City officials say it will fund a million dollars of paving. County officials say the school system would face layoffs without the extra revenue.
The Cleveland City Council approved a 2010-11 budget Monday that includes no property tax increase.
The $35 million general fund budget mirrors the current budget. There are other, separate funds in the budget, including the city school system and Cleveland Utilities.
The city tax rate remains the same, $1.49 for each $100 of assessed property valuation.
