Award-winning author Marty Essen will present “Around the World in 90 Minutes,” a high-energy slide show about his travels, in two appearances here Saturday.
Essen’s show features interesting facts, humorous stories and the best of thousands of photos he took while traversing the world for his book, “Cool Creatures, Hot Planet: Exploring the Seven Continents.”
While working on the book, according to his press material, Essen “was stung by one of the world’s most venomous insects, bitten by a poisonous snake, surrounded by wolves and attacked by a hippo — and had the time of his life.”
Other highlights of his show include cuddly wallaroos, friendly penguins, swimming with piranhas and hiking with a porcupine caribou migration.
His presentations will start at 2 and 6:30 p.m. in Benwood Auditorium, corner of Palmetto and East Fifth streets at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
His visit is sponsored by Chattanooga Nature Center, Reflection Riding Arboretum & Botanical Garden, Tennessee Aquarium, UTC and Lookout Mountain Conservancy.
Cost is $5 for adults, $2.50 for children 4-11. Payment may be made at the door, or seating can be reserved by calling 821-1160, ext. 0.
Books and photographs will be available for purchase. To learn more about Essen, visit www.coolcreatureshotplanet.com.
