ATLANTA — Closing arguments continued Tuesday in the trial of a dozen former Atlanta Public Schools educators accused of participating in a test cheating conspiracy.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported (http://bit.ly/1Dzobv0 ) that an attorney representing one of the 12 defendants accused prosecutors of overreaching in charging them with violating laws that are usually linked to organized crime.
“Never have I seen the power of the state wielded like I have in this case,” said Akil Secret, attorney for former Deerwood Academy assistant principal Tabeeka Jordan.
Attorney Sanford Wallack, who represents former Dobbs Elementary School teacher Dessa Curb, questioned the Georgia Bureau of Investigation probe that led to an indictment in the case and said innocent employees were also targeted in the investigation.
“She’s here because of the Salem witchcraft mentality that took place during the GBI investigation,” Wallack said of his client.
