If you didn’t find the bargains you were looking for two weeks ago on Antique Alley, try again this weekend.
The annual Dixie Highway Yard Sale happens Friday-Sunday, June 2-4, along the historic Dixie Highway – more commonly known as U.S. Highway 41.
Pickers, junkers and anyone who just loves a good bargain, will be out in full force checking out yard sales along the 90-mile route from Marietta to Ringgold, Ga.
Built between 1915 and 1927, the Dixie Highway is significant because it was the first north-south interstate paved highway in the U.S., stretching from the Canadian border to Miami, Fla., according to georgiahistory. com.
The route passes through 13 participating communities in North Georgia including Ringgold, Dalton, Cartersville, Adairsville, Kennesaw and Acworth.
Ringgold Feed and Seed, 402 High St., is holding its June High Cotton Market this weekend in conjunction with the Dixie Highway sale. Visitors will find truckloads of stuff in 30 booths set up in the parking and 40 more spaces inside the Ringgold business.
Yard sale shopping tips
* Keep an eye out for food and drink vendors along the route. When you’re treasure hunting, you don’t have time to sit in a restaurant.* Watch for yard-sale signs pointing the way to off-highway sales.* Wear comfortable lightweight clothing and use sunscreen.* Feel free to haggle over prices. You’ll likely have the most luck haggling on the last day of the yard sale when sellers are tired and ready to close up.* Have your car serviced before you hit the road, and make sure your air conditioner is working.
