CLEVELAND, Tenn. — Although groundbreaking won’t begin until early next year, local contractors say they’re eager to be involved with Wacker Chemical’s planned $1 billion polycrystalline silicon factory in Bradley County.
Because of the specialized work required by chemical plant construction, many jobs can be completed only by a select few contractors from around the world, said Gary Farlow, the Cleveland/Bradley County Chamber of Commerce president.
Nevertheless, Mr. Farlow said he’s received calls from “everyone in the country” wanting to be included in the construction.
“You could probably go to the phone book and look up every contractor in there; they all want to work on the project,” he said. “Any reasonably sized contractor would love to have that contract.”
Cason Conn, project manager of Cleveland construction firm Tri-Con Inc., said he believes the bulk of the work on the plant can be performed by local companies.
