A trio of funny people accustomed to drawing laughter have been tapped to draw an audience to the inaugural Nights of Comedy in Dalton, Ga.
In the debut lineup are Jerry Harvey of Chattanooga, Jessica Carter of Nashville and Brent Haley of Dalton.
The monthly showcase, co-produced by Bohemian Entertainment, will be presented on fourth Fridays at the Dalton Distillery on East Morris Street.
“The primary function of the distillery is to produce moonshine – a family recipe over a hundred years in the making – but then there’s a whole lot of additional space that wasn’t being used,” says owner Chuck Butler. “I want to bring the community in, and let’s all have some fun together. Offering up [a] comedy night every fourth Saturday is how we’re getting the fun ball rolling.”
Connie Hall-Scott, director of Bohemian Entertainment, as well as Dalton Ghost Tours for the past 13 years, calls its a “new tier of entertainment” for Dalton.
Hall-Scott met Harvey at The Comedy Catch earlier this year.
“I literally laughed ’til I cried during his stand-up routine,” she says. “When Chuck said he’d like to do Nights of Comedy at the distillery, I knew exactly who should headline.”
Tickets are priced at $15, which includes one drink. Food and additional drinks will be available for purchase. Tickets will be sold at the door or may be picked up in advance at the distillery.
The show is rated R due to adult content. No one under the age of 17 will be admitted without a parent present.
ABOUT THE PERFORMERS
* Jerry Harvey: He got his start in comedy doing benefits for firefighter and emergency medical services in 2004. Drawing on that success, he took his act to the stage at The Comedy Catch and has been building momentum since. In 2010, he won the Southeastern Funniest People Search V. In 2012, he made it to the semifinals at the World Series of Comedy in Las Vegas. More recently, he was voted among the top eight up-and-coming LGBT comics in the nation by Advocate Magazine. He has performed with Killer Beaz, John Wesley Austin, Landry, and Jen Kober, among others. He is the co-host of “The Nth Degree” on WGOW-FM 102.3.
* Jessica Carter: She has performed all over the country since breaking into comedy in 2009. She has a 15-year background in acting, radio and theater management and has been actively involved with Radio Free Nashville for the past seven years. Her show, “Friday Night Drama,” features actors and comics from the Nashville area.
* Brent Haley: An open-mike event in Chattanooga seven years ago helped propel him into stand-up comedy, and he was a regular performer in the murder-mystery shows at Vaudeville Theatre in Chattanooga. Last year he began filming the documentary “Set-Up, Punchline, Topper” about his life as a comedian on the road, and he’s working on a stage comedy called “PennyWhistle.” He also has written, produced and starred in shows at the Dalton Little Theatre: “Shakespeare in the Sandbox” and “Mystic Town.” His film creations include “The Other Me” and the award-winning short film “Blue Butterfly.” He directed the Web series “Black Liver Theatre,” starring DJ Lewis, Corey Forrester and other comedians.
