Rossville library kicks off summer reading

The Rossville Public Library will launch its 2010 summer reading program, “Make a Splash, Read!” with a party on Saturday at Lee and Gordon’s Mills in Chickamauga, Ga.

There will be storytelling with Carmen Agra Deedy, magic by Ken Scott and steel-drum music by Paul Vogle. Local author Keith Robinson will be there and there will be games, crafts and food. Hours are 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free.

The family-oriented summer program has something for everyone in each age group, library organizers said.

Children’s programs on Wednesdays start June 2 and will bring visitors from Chattanooga’s Kids on the Block, the Tennessee Aquarium and more. Programs are held at 10:30 a.m. at the library, except for July 7 and 14. A program on Taekwondo Plus and one by magician Tommy Johns will be held at Rossville Church of Christ.

Teen programs at 2 p.m. Thursdays starting June 3 include “Make Waves with the Wii,” a movie about a demigod battling mythological monsters, “Animé Adventures” and comic book artist Kyle Puttkammer.

There will be new adult programs as well, including a movie night on June 10, discussion of paranormal romance books June 19 and an origami class with date and time to be announced.

The Friends of the Rossville Library also will be holding a fish decorating contest.

Sign up at the library and pay $1.50 to receive a fish to decorate at the library or at home. Fish must be returned by June 16 and will be displayed all summer at the library.

The fish that collects the most votes (in the form of money donated to the Friends of the Library) will win a prize. All proceeds benefit the Summer Reading Program.

All programs are free. For more information call 706-866-1368 or visit www.chrl.org.
