Catanzaro leadership will be hard to replace
As a director on the Chattanooga State Foundation Board, I was privy to information that never made the local paper. Jim Catanzaro was a remarkable innovator and a strong academic leader for Chattanooga State. I watched his teaching and talked with students. He was an excellent teacher, creating an online course that is one of only several included in the Monterey Institute’s list of the best in U.S. He started the Collegiate High School, the College Global honors program, the Wacker Institute, and many best in class college programs for which he was recognized nationally. He is a scholar with a Ph.D. in a classical subject from the graduate school of several of the highest ranked liberal arts and science and engineering colleges in the country. In 2014 the Tennessee Higher Education Commission ranked colleges in the state on important measures. Chattanooga State ranked at the top. If professors want more focus on academics, starting with their own professionalism would add credibility. Replacing him will be difficult.
