Dogs have their day in Copperhill

Copperhill, Tenn., is going to the dogs again.

The town’s second annual Dog Days of Summer, highlighted by several “Dogs We Love” contests, is scheduled Saturday.

“This is a day to bring your well-behaved best friend out for a fun stroll,” according to organizers. “There will be live music throughout the day, a hot-dog stand for the hungry and a low-cost rabies clinic from 10 a.m. until noon, provided by Doc Mitchell and the staff of Copper Basin Veterinary. Rescue groups will be on hand to offer adoptions and information.”

Registration for the contests is from 10 a.m. to noon, with categories including Biggest and Most Beautiful. A parade will follow to show off the pets.

Another option is the costume contest, with entries accepted from 3 to 5 p.m., when judging takes place. A parade will follow at 5:30 p.m.

There is a $5 entry fee for each pet, with discounts for multiple pets in the same household.

Participating merchants will have signs in their windows indicating doggy treats or specially priced merchandise.

All events will take place at the BB&T parking lot on Ocoee Street downtown. Musical performances by Donald Ray will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
