Nearly 10 years after it opened, the Wal-Mart Supercenter on Signal Mountain Road is adding a Murphy fueling station.
Work has started in one corner of the shopping center’s parking lot to hold the fueling center that also will feature a walk-in store, said C.J. Weaver, project superintendent for Cobb Environmental & Technical Services of Tupelo, Miss.
He said workers should take about two-and-a-half months to build the facility that will offer four sets of fuel pumps.
Fletcher Bright Co., which developed the shopping center, termed the Wal-Mart the third highest volume of the Super centers in the Chattanooga area. According to the Chattanooga development company, there’s a traffic volume by the center of about 30,000 cars a day.
George Bright, the company’s president, said the fueling station was envisioned when the shopping center was planned.
The Wal-Mart anchors the $29 million shopping center, dubbed Signal Mountain Village, that created a new retail hub in that part of Hamilton County. The 203,000-square-foot Wal-Mart opened in 2006.
The longtime Mill & Mine Supply Co. Inc. store at the site moved to make room for the shopping center. Mill & Mine eventually opened a location off Dayton Boulevard near Signal Mountain Road.
The shopping center also offers a McAlister’s Deli, Hibbett Sports store, and El Monterray restaurant among other ventures.
