ObamaCare backers now cry foul

There were countless warnings before ObamaCare became law that it would cause havoc. Again and again, opponents of the legislation pointed out the impossibility of meeting ObamaCare’s wild promises of expanded coverage without creating all sorts of unintended consequences.

Still, with zero Republican support, Democrats in Congress passed ObamaCare, and the president signed it into law.

But now, even some of the original supporters of the legislation are recognizing ObamaCare’s ill effects.

The massive Service Employees International Union says ObamaCare is a key reason why one of its huge affiliates will now have to drop coverage for the children of tens of thousands of its members.

“[N]ew federal health-care reform legislation requires plans with dependent coverage to expand that coverage up to age 26,” the head of benefit and pension funds for SEIU’s 1199 affiliate in New York told union members.

“Our limited resources are already stretched as far as possible, and meeting this new requirement would be financially impossible.”

That admission is sadly ironic. Early this year, the head of the SEIU enthusiastically described parts of ObamaCare that he thought would make it popular with the American people.

Interviewed by The Washington Post, Andy Stern declared, “[I]f you can say to people that if your kid is 26 years old, you can keep him on your insurance plan … [t]hey get that.”

But what do you say to people now, as ObamaCare is destroying coverage for those very children? How are they better off?

Is it any wonder that Republicans are vowing to de-fund and eventually repeal ObamaCare?
