Mellow Mushroom’s good taste transcends the season

Lunch just got a lot better, with dining combos under $10. Try the half hoagie with soup or salad for $8, or any single-topping slice with a salad for $6. Who needs another PB&J — unless of course that stands for pizza, beer and just hanging out. (Photo by Mark Gilliland)

Why not gather your friends and family to celebrate another trip around the sun? At Mellow, you can eat for free on your birthday with proof of ID. Adults may choose between any entrée or small specialty pie up to a $15 value, and kids may choose any one of Mellow’s kids’ meals.

Much like the Scenic City itself, Mellow Mushroom loves beer and loves the outdoors. In fact, its adoration for the latter transcends temperature. At Mellow Mushroom, it is always patio season.

“Our patios are open year-round anytime weather permits,” said regional manager LJ Knight.

The patio at its downtown location provides an optimal place to people-watch – particularly now, during tourist season. Just a skip away from the Tennessee Aquarium, the view is as delicious as its lunch specials are speedy.

Throughout the workweek, diners may choose among different quickly made combos, including soup and salad, or a single-topping slice with soup or salad. Either of those options is available for $6. Or, diners may choose a half hoagie with soup or salad for $8. In honor of St. Patty’s Day, for a limited time, diners may also add a select pint of brew to their lunch for an additional $3.

Meanwhile, the patio at its Hamilton Place location offers a quieter experience. Tucked away from the downtown hustle, the porch is covered and has several heaters, which, LJ said, are “perfect for early spring outdoor dining when you just can’t wait to get outside.”

Best of all, both locations boast a huge array of beer. Downtown, Mellow has 40 beers on tap. At Hamilton Place, it has even more.

Indeed, much like the Scenic City itself, Mellow’s selection of local craft beers does not fall flat. And that is something to celebrate.

“Mellow Mushroom is celebrating Chattanooga beer all year long,” LJ said.

On the first Tuesday of every month, Mellow will be hosting pint night. During these events, a different Chattanooga-brewed beer will be featured while a variety of other beers, local or from elsewhere, will be on special. On March 7, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at its Hamilton Place location, Mellow will kick off the new series with happy hour featuring Chattanooga Brewing Company.

“Beer-lovers can join CBC’s brewmaster to learn more about the brewing process and sample several different varieties with a [CBC] flight,” LJ said. “Mellow’s beer master Matt Crider will also share his favorite pairings of CBC beers and Mellow menu items.”

Beer, bites and outdoor dining – as Mellow knows, it doesn’t get more delicious than that, Chattanooga.
