MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alabama Army National Guard’s 1200th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, out of Ashland, has been called to active duty.
The 1200th will deploy about 50 National Guard soldiers to Egypt for an ongoing, multinational peacekeeping mission, which has been monitoring the border between Egypt and Israel since 1979. They will provide logistics support to units conducting the observation mission in three sectors along the Egypt-Israel border.
The unit will continue to undergo extensive training at a mobilization station before deploying overseas.
The battalion headquarters will have a departure ceremony Saturday in Ashland at its armory.
Since 9/11, the Alabama National Guard has called more than 22,000 personnel to active duty.
