Thieves ransack Normal Park school

Before investigators had a chance to find the person who stole computers from Howard high school earlier this month, another thief ransacked Normal Park Lower School on Tuesday night.

While vandalizing the building, the thief or thieves took several computers, destroyed Internet and phone lines and ripped a smart board off the wall in at least one classroom, said principal Jill Levine.

“It was pretty upsetting to walk into school and see what they did. Whoever did this is stealing from children,” Ms. Levine said.

Ms. Levine, whose office was “turned upside down,” said all the technology at the campus was purchased through fundraisers. And because of high insurance deductibles, the school likely will have to raise money again to replace any of the stolen items, she said.

Ms. Levine talked to several kindergarten and first-grade classes Wednesday, trying to calm the fears of young students looking over their shoulders for “the bad guys.”
