A barrel of some kind of soap was discovered in a waterway off Short Tail Springs Road on Sunday afternoon by a couple walking their dog, according to Hamilton County Emergency Services.
Spokeswoman Amy Maxwell said the walkers were in the 7900 block when they spotted the 55-gallon barrel and called 911. They reported a blue substance leaking into the water.
Officials with the Highway 58 Volunteer Fire Department who responded didn’t see anything leaking from the barrel, Maxwell said, but they requested the county’s hazardous materials team. That team removed the barrel from the waterway and reported it contained a “soap substance,” Maxwell said.
No injuries were reported. The cleanup will be done by Marion Environmental at no cost, Maxwell said.
