The Cadek Conservatory of Music, a provider of private music lessons for generations of Chattanoogans since its founding in 1904, is moving from downtown to the Girls Preparatory School campus, a news release states.

The conservatory, for decades affiliated with the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, will open July 1 in a historic former private residence now being renovated, the release states.

“GPS’s commitment to the performing arts, in addition to its reputation for academic excellence, ensures a high-quality instructional program that will continue to enhance the musical landscape of Chattanooga,” said Chris Smith, GPS board chairwoman and director of UTC’s School of Nursing. UTC Chancellor Dr. Steve Angle said, “We are very excited to work with GPS to expand access to the music lessons offered by the Cadek Conservatory. UTC values and promotes cultural programming in our community, and this partnership allows us to further that commitment.”

Generations of students learned to play string and wind instruments, piano and percussion at Cadek, the release states. They have taken voice lessons, learned music theory, joined music ensembles, and participated in the Kindermusik program, as well.
