Editor’s note: Barry Courter has a 26-year-old son who is a college graduate and a 21-year-old daughter who is a college senior. Each week he poses a question he wishes they would ask.
Q: Dad, I know how attached to their phones my friends are, is it the same in the business world?
A: In some cases, yes. Even adults who should know better seem to think it’s OK to ignore common rules of etiquette when it comes to their phones. It’s a show of disrespect to pay more attention to your phone than the person you are talking with face to face, whether it’s at the cash register or in a meeting.
