V-J Day!

What a marvelously happy day it was on Aug. 14, 1945, when there came the official announcement of American victory over Imperial Japan – ending World War II and bringing glorious peace.

V-J Day was possible because the terrible war that Nazi Germany’s Adolf Hitler began by invading Poland in 1939 was finally ended after American nuclear bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August of 1945, bringing Japanese surrender.

What a celebration Americans and many others throughout the world enjoyed!

Unfortunately, we have had subsequent wars – being currently engaged in Iraq and Afghanistan. But fortunately, there have been no other “world wars” – and no other nuclear bombs exploded in war.

We are thankful that the nuclear bombs dropped on Japan in 1945 saved countless American lives by bringing an end to World War II. And we are thankful that American nuclear superiority has helped prevent other possible nuclear wars since then.
