Federal authorities allege a Sweetwater, Tenn., man – posing as a University of Tennessee football player on Snapchat – has terrorized as many as 12 young women and at least two minors with threats of violence and humiliation if they did not send him nude selfies with sexually explicit captions.

Brandon Douglas Shanahan, 22, was indicted Tuesday by a federal grand jury on 14 counts of extortion via Snapchat, the first such prosecution here involving the image messaging app.

Shanahan had already been charged via a criminal complaint filed by the FBI’s Cyber Crimes Task Force late last month after a UT female student came forward a month earlier with allegations she had been tricked into believing she was communicating with UT defensive back Cameron Sutton, deceived with claims she had drunkenly sent him nude photos and threatened with exposure if she didn’t send more.
