Q: I’ve been suffering from a low libido lately. What could be the cause?

A: Lack of interest in sex, or decreased libido, is the most common sexual problem in women. Generally, a woman’s libido is affected by the emotional tone of her relationship. If her relationship is more emotionally fulfilling, she will have more of a desire for sex. Other causes of low libido include stress at home or in the workplace, illness, painful sex, and menopause, when women experience a drop in their levels of testosterone and estrogen, two hormones that play a crucial role in sexual desire. Once these issues are addressed and resolved, most women can regain sexual desire and resume a healthy sexual relationship.
