Welcome economic optimism

All of us are eager to look for signs of economic optimism, and fortunately there are many these days.

There are good signs of the kinds of things that affect us positively and personally, as well as our community and our nation as a whole.

A Federal Reserve survey of business conditions throughout the United States released Wednesday has suggested that all of the nation’s 12 federal bank districts grew steadily from February through April 2, with the hiring of our people increasing in most parts of the nation, according to The Associated Press.

There’s an old saying that if you have a job and can support your family, you can better face just about everything. So it’s good to have reports of more job opportunities.

The survey indicated that consumers still are spending, that retail sales have increased, residential real estate activity has improved, real estate developers have been building more houses and apartments, and there is demand for more potentially productive loans.

In addition, the leisure and hospitality industries are enjoying robust activity. That’s not just good news in itself, as it also reflects generally happy economic attitudes for all.

Optimism tends to generate more optimism, which can create better conditions for many of our people.

With the arrival of spring, we expect even more good economic news, in addition to the welcome appearance of the robins and the buttercups.

As most of the signs happily are positive this season, it’s important for us to try to do the right things to take sound and practical advantage of them and encourage even more good economic things for all of our people.
