A mother of six had her children’s Christmas presents taken right out of her hands as she was walking into her home last night at 2312 Union Avenue, police said.
Sanmequail Smith told police that she was carrying the gifts when she was approached by a black male who asked to use her phone. When she said “no,” the suspect grabbed her shopping bag containing an Xbox 360, games and controllers, police said in a news release.
Smith struggled with the suspect but he was able to pull the bag and get away to a vehicle waiting nearby. As the man ran away, the gaming console fell from the bag and was run over by the suspect vehicle as it fled the scene, police said.
The suspect is described as a black male wearing a black toboggan, jacket and pants. He was between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 8 inches and weighed between 150 to 170 pounds. The suspect vehicle is described as a dark colored sedan.
Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the Chattanooga Police Department at 423-698-2525.
