Warmth ushers in spring

His mother Lisa Blake said she purchased the kite for him at a flea market in January, but this was the first day he was able to get it up into the air. “During the winter, he would just run around with it for hours,” she said.

Bill Fitzgerald has been remodeling a building off Main Street for the last 10 days, and Friday was the first time he was able to wear a short-sleeve shirt.

After almost a week without an entire sunny day, the advent of spring brought clear skies and mild temperatures, a blessing for someone whose livelihood depends on good weather.

“It makes your whole outlook a lot better,” Mr. Fitzgerald said. “After days and days of rain, it makes you depressed. You know that every day it rains is a day you don’t have the money to pay your bills.”

A high pressure ridge is responsible for the mild weather, but don’t get too used to it — there’s a 70 percent chance of showers and cooler temperatures Sunday afternoon.

“The bigger concern for us right now is definitely the cold temperatures because … a lot of people have already started planting their flowers and putting stuff like that out,” said NewsChannel 9 meteorologist Allison Chinchar.
