A memorial service for local runner and former Baylor School cross country coach Van Townsend will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in the school’s chapel, and Fast Break Athletics will be hosting a morning run in his honor. Townsend lost a long battle with cancer on Monday. He was 56. He had continued to provide personal running training and motivation until a recent new onset of the disease. Anyone interested in Saturday’s run can see the store’s Facebook page. The family asks that instead of flowers, contributions be made to the Multiple Myleoma Research Foundation at mmrf.org.
