A new wheelchair swing at a therapeutic riding facility had its origins in Gatlinburg, Tenn., after a Chattahoochee, Fla., man saw the need at SpiritHorse Equine Therapy at Freedom Ranch in Tunnel Hill, Ga.
Chattahoochee resident Blaine Cort and his family have visited Gatlinburg year after year for the Smoky Mountain Tunes & Tales and Winter Magic Tunes & Tales programs, which I produce.
I have a huge passion for my work with Spirithorse at Freedom Ranch, which works with people of “all abilities and all ages,” specializing in horse therapy with special needs individuals, at-risk youth and veterans. Blaine and his family began following this program on Facebook and recently visited the ranch.
When ambulatory children are having fun on the playground, wheelchair children can only watch. Blaine recognized the need for a wheelchair swing. He researched wheelchair swings and had a lifelong friend build a swing that will hold 1,000 pounds. Blaine and his daughter, Allison, recently brought the swing to Freedom Ranch.
