The Amazon.com fulfillment center project cleared two key hurdles today as Chattanooga officials seek to close the deal to bring the online retailer here.
The city’s Industrial Development Board endorsed an incentive package earlier approved by the City Council and the Hamilton County Commission.
Also, the development board OK’ed a land swap with Volkswagen to enable Amazon to build a proposed 1 million-square-foot facility at Enterprise South industrial park.
VW, which had a lease on the 80-acre site on which Amazon wants to build, will receive a new agreement relating to a 53-acre parcel adjacent to the automaker’s existing plant site. Also, the car company will receive a similar lease agreement on a 15-acre plot slated for use related to VW’s proposed welcome center near Interstate 75.
Amazon has said it would employ over 1,400 people full-time and potentially more than 2,000 on a seasonal basis if it builds facilities in Hamilton and Bradley counties.
