Schools budget hike unneeded; don’t do it and more letters to the editors

About the proposed tax increase: I am a senior, and I receive Social Security. I worked hard so I could afford to pay for my house.

If property taxes go any higher, I will have to sell. Forget the senior tax deduction. I received a deduction of $190 on a $1,600 tax bill.

There has been so much bad information. One TV station reported that renters pay taxes. They do not; only the property owners receive a tax bill.

If we need a tax increase, then enact a sales tax increase. That would get everybody. I thought we agreed we were not going to pour any more into our schools until we saw results. I think if you check you will see we are in not that great of shape. Also, there are a lot of extras thrown in that proposed $34 million increase – truancy officers, social workers, counselors, etc. Parents need to step up.
