Officer’s killer was extremely anti-government, newspaper says

ATLANTA – A newspaper reports that a man suspected of killing a police officer before dying in a shootout with authorities in Georgia held anti-government views.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Tierre Guthrie was killed at his home in a shootout Saturday that began when sheriff’s deputies tried to serve a warrant for failing to appear in court for traffic violations. Also killed was Locust Grove Police Officer Chase Maddox. Two deputies were injured.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution quoted neighbor Bryan Narcisse on its website Saturday as saying Guthrie had previous run-ins with deputies and didn’t believe they had the right to be on his property.

Guthrie’s sister, Claudette Wright, told the newspaper that Guthrie held extreme anti-government views and believed in conspiracy theories.
