NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A newly released audit calls for tighter controls over the way Metro Nashville handles speeding and parking tickets.
The audit follows a WTVF-TV investigation last May into ticket fixing that showed attorneys acting as special judges dismissed hundreds of speeding tickets. The station reported the discovery of more than 5,000 missing tickets in the desk drawers of two employees at the Traffic Violations Bureau.
The audit found police officers were allowed inside the Traffic Violations Bureau to remove tickets that had not yet been entered into the system.
It recommended the office limit access to the facility and require visitors to sign in. It also called for better tracking of tickets through the judicial process.
