KNOXVILLE – The Tennessee women’s basketball team faced down a tough challenge on Saturday afternoon at Thompson-Boling Arena, but in the end they survived and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament.
The Lady Vols held off a tough Boise State team 72-61 after the Broncos got to within five points in the final minutes of the game.
Tennessee was led by 24 points from Bashaara Graves and 18 from Ariel Massengale.
Boise State made nine 3-pointers and rallied on several occasions from double-figure deficits and were down 58-63 with 2:51 remaining. But a 3-pointer by Massengale and a layup by Graves pushed the lead back to 10 and sealed the win.
The Broncos were led by Brooke Bahukoa with 22 points.
