Foolish lawmakers jeopardizing health
April Fool’s Day has come and gone. However, I am still perplexed over the lack of understanding, actually a serious lack of intelligence, in our state legislature when dealing with the issue of insuring the most vulnerable among us. This is serious stuff and demands serious action.
Is it April Fool’s Day revisited? Do our state legislators not have anyone in their acquaintance who cannot afford medical insurance? Everyone I have spoken to about Insure Tennessee is equally baffled by the political posturing of the “wise old men” we call Tennessee senators.
The rallies for passage of the program represent a wide cross section of the electorate and their message is being totally ignored. How much longer can we as an up-and-coming state, as defined by our politicians, tolerate such belligerent disregard of the needs of the most vulnerable among us? In this season of Easter and Passover I urge our senators to consider both their political duty and their personal moral responsibility and get on with protecting those needing protection and pass some version of Insure Tennessee. It makes no sense to do otherwise.

Christianity unique in the risen Christ
Criticizing the Quran is blasphemy punishable by death. The Quran denies the death and resurrection of Jesus, which would be blasphemy! Christians don’t care what the Quran says; they believe “if Christ be not risen, the gospel is vain and the faith is vain.” Unless Jesus is the risen Lord, Christianity has no uniqueness among the religions of humankind. It would be reduced to faith in a message left by a “great messenger,” but actually not even this would be the case for the gospel of Christianity is the good news of the Resurrection.
Christians bear in their consciousness the presence of their risen Lord. This will inevitably change their attitude toward people. They reverence others, are deeply concerned for their genuine human welfare, empathize with their problems and sorrows, and devote themselves to bettering their lives. In this way, Christ himself through the impact he has on Christians in faith will be working to redeem the lives of all humankind.
The uniqueness of Christian faith is that Christ is alive and comes to bring good news to this and every age until earth and all creation ring with joy, justice, love and praise.

Fletcher, cameras perplex Burrell
It’s time this mayor of Chattanooga sends this imported police chief, Fred Fletcher, back to wherever he came from. The police chief should be hired within the ranks of the Chattanooga Police Department and should be a chief who actually knows where Market Street is located. Also, he should be someone who knows how to police these different troubled areas and put these criminals in jail rather than just talking to them and telling them to be good.
Another thing that needs to go is speed/red light cameras. They are the most unlawful things I have ever seen. These cameras cannot tell who is actually driving the car — if it’s the owner or not. The drivers of these cars should be cited in person by an actual police officer and tried in court. These cameras are nothing but a fee-grabbing scheme and should be done away with immediately.
Anyone who thinks this police chief is doing a good job could float down the Tennessee River on a toothpick.
