Georgia junior cornerback Brandon Boykin and junior guard Cordy Glenn announced Wednesday night that they will return for their senior seasons with the Bulldogs.
“This is exciting news for Georgia and for Brandon and Cordy,” Bulldogs coach Mark Richt said. “I think they have both made wise decisions for the right reasons and will be important senior leaders for us this coming year. We’re recruiting 24/7 right now, but these two are a big part of our recruiting class.”
Boykin has recorded 104 tackles and six interceptions in his 39-game career, which includes 24 starts. He is also the only player in Southeastern Conference history with three career 100-yard kickoff returns, turning the trick against South Carolina and Tennessee in 2009 and Kentucky this past season.
The 5-foot-10, 183-pounder from Fayetteville, Ga., ranks No. 1 in school history for career kickoff return yardage with 1,813 on 72 returns and has four touchdowns.
“After meeting with my family and coaches, I was able to put a lot of things into perspective,” Boykin said. “First of all, I want to be part of getting Georgia back into the championship hunt. Coming back will also give me a chance to get my degree before entering the draft, and another year of experience will only make me a better player as well.”
Glenn, a 6-5, 320-pounder from Riverdale, Ga., has started 34 career games, including a team-leading 32 straight among the 2011 returnees.
“I want to come back for several reasons, including helping our team get back on track to where we want to be,” Glenn said. “Coming back will also give me a chance to improve my draft stock and get closer to my degree which is important to me and my family.”
Wednesday’s decisions by Boykin and Glenn leave outside linebacker Justin Houston as the lone junior yet to decide. Unlike Boykin and Glenn, Houston has been projected as a first-round NFL draft pick.
