When Tiffany Yeargan Hixon and her husband moved from Ooltewah to Dunlap, Tenn., a year ago, they knew their new house was going to need some work. Mrs. Hixon said the kitchen was recently gutted and refurbished. One aspect of the home that did not require renovation, however, was the master bathroom. Mr. and Mrs. Hixon were greeted in their new home by an oasis of washroom luxury, courtesy of George Wright Construction. All they had to do was add personal touches to give the room the atmosphere they wanted.
“I wanted the bathroom to be, I don’t want to say romantic, but calming,” said Mrs. Hixon.
Shower
The walk-in shower features glass mosaic walls in shades of ecru and brown. The pebble-stone floor includes both neutral and blue-toned stones, which pick up the aqua-colored glass edging on the shower’s entryway. Mrs. Hixon said she might consider adding additional showerheads in the future.
His and hers
The Hixons’ bathroom allows for multiperson use while still affording privacy. Two toilets are set off in closed-door areas. There are also his-and-hers sinks and walk-in closets. The floors of the closets are hand-scraped Brazilian cherry, while the rest of the bathroom floor is composed of large tiles that she said look and feel like leather. The floor can be heated at will.
Chair
This Kincaid chair, with weathered, leather seat and back, was brought from the Hixons’ former home in Ooltewah. It features nailhead trim and hand-carving. Mrs. Hixon said she has had the piece for nearly 20 years.
Bathtub
The freestanding bathtub is a Swiss model, and a favorite of Mrs. Hixon, who calls herself “a bathtub person.” Artificial plants by the tub, which has a view of the front yard, gives a serene feeling. All floral arrangements were done by Silk Trees, Petals & Ivy.
A framed print by artist Pino hangs on the wall in a carved frame. The print was a gift to Mrs. Hixon from her husband for their first anniversary. The silk floral arrangements in the room were planned to complement the artwork.
