The Chattanooga Lookouts won 4-0 at Birmingham in a Southern League baseball game delayed an hour and a half by rain Saturday night.
Adam Brett Walker II hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning, and Alex Wimmers (4-1) was the winning pitcher after allowing two hits and striking out nine batters in 7 2/3 innings. Jake Reed allowed a hit but got the last out of the eighth, and Zach Jones pitched a perfect ninth for Chattanooga, which improved to 37-24 in the first half of league play.
Even with center fielder Byron Buxton on the way to join the Minnesota Twins, the Lookouts did well at the top of the lineup. Jorge Polanco and Niko Goodrum each was 2-for-4 and scored a run in the first two spots, and No. 3 batter Miguel Sano was 1-for-2 with a double, a walk, an RBI and a run.
Sano’s sacrifice fly in the third inning brought in Polanco with the first run of the game, and Mike Gonzales made it 2-0 with a single scoring Sano in the sixth.
Christian Marrero had two of the three hits for the Barons (30-32).
Game four of the five-game series in Birmingham is today at 4 EDT. Jose Berrios (7-3, 3.21) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Lookouts, with Frankie Montas (1-1, 2.50) scheduled for the Barons.
