A downtown Chattanooga restaurant received a low score after a recent health inspection found various issues.

Staff at Alex Thai Food & Sushi Bistro, located at 26 E. Main Street, were found eating in the kitchen while preparing food and not washing hands when required. Employees were eating from a bowl of food used to make dishes and an open drink was seen on the prep table.

The permit for the bar was expired and an ice scoop handle was left in ice, which led to the facility scoring a 78.

The Chattanooga-Hamilton County Health Department inspects restaurants twice a year and grades the businesses on a 100-point scale. Scores below 70 require corrective action.

Restaurants are reinspected if they fail to meet critical standards. To file a health-related complaint, call the Department of Environmental Health at 209-8110. The scores are original and do not reflect on-the-spot changes, which sometimes lead to upward adjustments.
