We noticed the happy news recently that Chattanooga State Community College broke an enrollment record.
The 12,601 students attending this fall represent the highest number ever enrolled at the school.
With a well-educated workforce being vitally necessary for the economic development prospects of Chattanooga and the surrounding region, it is encouraging that Chattanooga State is seeing a growing number of students take part in its programs.
Some of those students, of course, are enrolling because the recession has sharply reduced the number of jobs available to them.
Nevertheless, by taking the initiative to pursue additional education during hard economic times, those students are wisely positioning themselves to compete for future jobs in technological and other fields that will have high demand for workers.
We wish students at Chattanooga State, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and other fine local public and private institutions of higher learning every success.
