Happy New Year!

Long before there were calendars, it began to be obvious to primitive observers of nature that the days were getting a little longer at this time of year. “Change” was evident.

Longer days generate the expectation that weather will begin to be milder, that warmth and a better time are somehow ahead, and that spring, in time, will happily break through again.

So don’t we have a better prospect for a happier 2011 if we look toward it optimistically – and accompany our good desires with positive actions?

We wish a Happy New Year for everyone in 2011!

Some people scoff at “New Year’s resolutions.” But some people see the beginning of a new year as a good time to adjust our attitudes in a way that can really make us have a better year ahead.

Why would a new year be better?

Well, a new year suggests that we can make “new beginnings,” perhaps do things better, avoid past mistakes, write our lives on a figurative new slate.

It’s a good time to “count our many blessings, count them one by one,” and to resolve to put aside, as best we can, the negatives that have disappointed us in the past year.

Frankly, at the beginning of a new year, not much has changed – but we have the power in many respects to change our actions for better results. Hope does spring eternal in most people. And if we take a positive attitude, there is a good chance that optimism, accompanied by positive actions – “doing the right things” – can produce happier realities.

So why not give it a try? We wish for everyone a really Happy New Year.
