Thank you to Commissioners Bankston, Boyd and Smedley for taking a public stand against the county’s proposed tax increase.
With respect to those supporting the proposed hike, to include the county mayor, certain commissioners, certain Board of Education members, foundation heads, certain business and community leaders and others, now is not the time for a tax increase.
I’m all in for our students and the pursuit of excellence in education, but our school system has been mismanaged and demonstrated poor stewardship for decades. Student performance has been dismal for many years.
The organization is top-heavy and needs to be flattened. Support for hard-working teachers is critical, and growth funds provided by Tennessee could be used for teacher pay increases. During the last 10 years, the state has provided $50 million new dollars.
The influence of UnifiEd is frightening. If you haven’t seen The Apex Project Report, I suggest you read it. We’ve already seen their influence and impact with our current school board alignment, and now it has turned its attention to our county government.
