Lasting legacy
Growing up, my mother never lectured us about kindness.
However, she did volunteer a ton of time at our church and schools. She baked bread for every new person that moved to our street, and on trips to Food Lion, she parked her car at the back of the lot, explaining that we should save the closer spots for people who needed them more.
Ultimately, her gestures illustrated to me what it meant to be a good person. Kindness, after all, isn’t just about being helpful. It is also about leading by example.
In our first story below, we celebrate United Way of Greater Chattanooga’s 100 years of doing good, tracing its history back through the decades.
