Peyton Ogle has earned himself the right to be mentioned in the elite class of high school golfers to come out of Chattanooga.
Signal Mountain’s ever-steady senior concluded his prep career with a valiant runner-up finish in the TSSAA Division I-A state championship finale Tuesday at Sevierville Golf Club.
Ogle was the only competitor in the field to shoot below par over the final round in which he had three birdies through his first seven holes.
The Tennessee Tech commitment fought back from an eight-stroke deficit to give Summertown’s Jason Cole Campbell a run for his money. After a birdie on No. 16, Ogle was just a stroke behind the leader, who finished 3-under-par to win the state title over Ogle, who finished 1-under with rounds of 74 and 69 on the par 72 course.
“I am happy with the season I had,” Ogle said. “A lot of work went in to my game to do what I did and contend for an individual state title. I came two shots short, but when coming back from eight shots down there’s really nothing you can shake your head about. Golf is everything to me and I am excited to see where it takes me in life.”
Ogle’s impressive final round brought a close to a remarkable high school career in which he now holds all the individual records for an Eagles program that won state as a team from 2018-20.
Signal Mountain landed their second boys’ state runner-up finish on Tuesday, finishing thirteen strokes behind first-place Kingston (632, +43).
Ogle was joined by teammates Samuel Otwell, Scout Schlosser and Graham Barrett in helping make for a memorable overall finish.
For his high school career, Ogle’s final resume includes being a five-time all-district selection, a two-time district champion, a five-time all-region selection, a two-time region champion, a five-time state qualifier, a two-time all-state pick, a part of three state championship teams, City Prep champion and a state runner-up finish.
“I gave it all I had,” he added. “This season is one I will never forget.”
