Collegedale police are searching for an attempted murder suspect out on bond after he allegedly led officers on a chase Tuesday, according to a news release.

Officers responded to a residence of Kenneth Iverson McKenzie Jr.’s ex-girlfriend around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday after the woman said McKenzie, 32, had allegedly been hitting and throwing items at her front door. McKenzie left the area at a high speed before the vehicle was located by an officer and recognized as the same one driven during McKenzie’s previous arrests, the release states.

When an officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver refused to pull over and started a chase that continued south onto Interstate 75 and off at Bonny Oaks Drive. McKenzie abandoned the vehicle and fled from police on foot in the 6400 block of Basswood Lane.

McKenzie was arrested Nov. 16 on charges of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated burglary, aggravated stalking, aggravated rape, domestic assault, false imprisonment and violation of an order of protection. He was also served bond revocation warrants on his previous domestic assault-related charges and released on a $200,000 bond. McKenzie was also ordered to wear a GPS-tracking ankle monitor at the time, the release said.

On Nov. 30, McKenzie’s bonds were revoked while in Collegedale court from previous incidents involving the same victim. A hearing was set for Dec. 14, and the victim was notified to be in court. However, the victim did not appear in court to testify, so McKenzie’s bonds were reinstated, according to the release.

McKenzie is wanted by the Collegedale Police Department on charges of evading police, reckless driving, domestic assault and violation of an order of protection. Petitions to revoke all his previous bonds have also been filed through the court, the release said.

McKenzie is Black, stands 5 feet, 9 inches tall, has brown eyes and black hair and weighs 190 pounds.

Anyone with any information about the location of McKenzie is encouraged to contact the Collegedale Police Department at 423-396-3133.
